LuLu has no sutures!

Last week LuLu was struck with a bad upper respiratory infection and was sick for about 3 days. Thankfully her immune system was able to fight the infection and her eyes, lungs, and nose are all better! On Friday a local vet made a house call to her foster home and she had her sutures removed. She also got tested, had a distemper vaccine shot, and had her ears thoroughly cleaned out and treated for ear mites (the poor thing was severely infested with fleas and ear mites when she rescued!). She is walking pretty well, but of course still limps and it takes more effort to get her right leg moving. LuLu loves her exercise and playtime out of her cage and spends alot of time hanging out under the sisal scratch posts in her foster home! She'll have surgery in a few weeks to have the pins taken out of her legs. Please continue to send healing prayers to her, and donations are wonderful too!

LuLu continues to recover in her foster home!

One week after surgery, LuLu is getting better and gaining strength while recovering in her foster home. She is taking antibiotics and pain medication, along with Vitamin C in her wet food and various flower essences to keep her stress down. Her foster mom is doing leg exercises with her and her right leg is getting stronger! It still dangles, and her hips will never be in alignment, but she is using her right leg to push and walk, so there is definitley feeling and life in her right leg! Please continue to send prayers and postive thoughts to LuLu and a donation of any size will be greatly appreciated. She'll get her sutures out next week, but she faces another surgery to remove her pins in early July. Like most small, grassroots cat rescue networks, we are on a shoestring budget and would deeply appreciate a donation towards LuLu's surgeries.

Lucky "LuLu" River makes it through surgery on 6/7/07!

The surgery was a huge success! Lucky River is now called "LuLu" for short since we now know she is a little girl! Both her rear legs were pinned and her right leg continues to dangle, but everyone is optimistic that she will regain the strength to use it again. She has moved from the animal hospital into a foster home to recover.

Wildwood Pet Network volunteer finds kitten in Rt. 50 (River Rd) along the Ohio River with 2 broken rear legs!

On 6/6/07, "Lucky River", a kitten, 8-9 weeks in age was rescued from the street by one of our volunteers. Both rear legs are broken. A special surgery is necessary to set the legs because there are pieces of bone which will require plates, etc. The one leg which is dangling may need to be amputated because there appears to be no feeling or ability to move that leg. There is no indication of internal injuries. Because the injuries are so severe we do not know if this is a male or female but the kiddo has spunk and continues to try to move about on front legs only. The vet has given the kitten fluids and pain medication to ease suffering. The vets expect a very good outcome even if one leg has to be amputated.
After surgery on 6/7/07, Lucky River will need a foster home with a family experienced in providing nursing and rehabilitation care. Contact wpnpets@aol.com if you are interested in fostering Lucky River. You can also help by making a tax deductible donation in one of two ways.
